ABOUT GOOD PITCH² AUSTRALIA
Shark Island Institute and Documentary Australia Foundation host GOOD PITCH² AUSTRALIA, and brought the first of these events to Sydney in October 2014. The 2015 event was held on 16th of September and the last in a trilogy of events will be held at the Sydney Opera House on 8 November 2016. The community partners for the event are Philanthropy Australia and Pro Bono Australia.
More than $7.3 million in philanthropic funding has been committed with an additional $500,000+ in pro bono support, and more than 60 powerful new strategic partnerships forged to fund production, build audiences and ensure the lasting impact of the 13 outstanding documentary films presented at the GOOD PITCH² AUSTRALIA events in 2014 and 2015.
Good Pitch is a BRITDOC project in partnership with Ford Foundation and the Sundance Institute Documentary Film Program.
Good Pitch brings together filmmakers with NGOs, foundations, philanthropists, social entrepreneurs, potential corporate and brand partners, broadcasters and media with leading social issues — to forge powerful alliances around-ground breaking films that are good for all these partners, good for the films and good for society.
In 2011 a satellite version of the forum, called Good Pitch² (Good Pitch Squared), was launched with the generous support of the Ford Foundation. With the same mission as the flagship events — connecting good films to good people — Good Pitch² enables regional organisations all over the world to put on their own Good Pitch events.
Filmmaking teams pitch their film and its associated outreach campaign to the invited representatives at the table, and a theatre of up to 300 participants. A moderated session follows with the aim of creating a lasting and unique coalition around each film, to maximise its impact and influence in the years ahead.
To date, more than 128 documentary projects have been presented at Good Pitch events in London, Oxford, New York, Washington DC, Toronto and Chicago as well as Good Pitch² events in San Francisco, Johannesburg, Taipei, Buenos Aires, Mumbai and Australia. More than 2137 organisations have attended a Good Pitch event — varied organisations from different sectors all bringing something unique to the table: expert knowledge, research and archives, memberships and networks and mailing lists, campaigning and lobbying expertise and access to policymakers as well as production and outreach funding. Together they make powerful allies.
Whilst Good Pitch2 Australia assesses documentary film projects to determine whether a documentary film to be presented at Good Pitch2 Australia is suitable for philanthropic funding and support, Good Pitch2 Australia is not the maker of the documentary films and takes no responsibility for the content of any of the Documentaries presented. Subject to the guarantees relating to the supply of services under the Competition and Consumer Act 2010 which cannot be excluded or modified, Good Pitch2 Australia, Shark Island Productions Pty Ltd, Shark Island Institute, and Documentary Australia Foundation disclaim all conditions, representations, warranties or guarantees (whether express, implied, statutory or otherwise) with respect to the performance of their functions and roles as described above. Potential donors and third parties assessing the documentary films for philanthropic funding or support should rely on their own financial and legal advice.
